Chasecorp Pty Ltd t/as Citicorp Business Brokers has been fined $4,500 and ordered to pay costs of $1,000 by the State Administrative Tribunal as a result of holding itself out as a business agent in Western Australia when it was not licensed in this State.

.In the same proceedings, Peter Shorter was fined $1,200 and ordered to pay costs of $500 by the Tribunal as a result of holding himself out as a business sales representative of Citicorp Business Brokers when he did not hold a certificate of registration in this State.

The Real Estate and Business Agents Supervisory Board (REBA) took disciplinary action against Citicorp Business Brokers and Mr Shorter in the Tribunal as a result of complaints regarding their conduct in Western Australia.

To conduct business broking work within Western Australia a person must either be licensed or hold a certificate of registration.

The Real Estate and Business Agents Act requires that licensed business agents and registered business sales representatives be suitable persons to operate in the industry and have appropriate qualifications.

Business agents must also have appropriate experience.

Once licensed and registered respectively, business agents and business sales representatives are required to comply with a Code of Conduct which requires them to act in their clients' best interests.

'There is a high risk to the community when business agents and business sales representatives are not licensed and registered and REBA is committed to pursuing those who fail to comply with the law. We are also keen to ensure that the industry is not famished by unlicensed and unregistered operators", REBA's Chairman Mark

Cuomo said.

Details of licensed business agents and registered business sales representatives can be obtained by contacting REBA on telephone '9282 0839 or website www.reba.wa.gov.au.
